Comhghairdeas!/Congratulations! Well done on completing Week 2 of Irish 102!
We hope you have enjoyed it and have learnt a lot. To briefly review the week, we have learnt about the Celtic calendar and the strong links between Ireland’s Celtic past and the Irish names for the months of the year. Following this, we learned the days of the week and the basics of how a regular verb is conjugated in the present tense. We then encountered some information about Fionn Mac Cumhaill and Na Fianna, as well as some basic rules about how to use the copula in sentences. We then learned about the Zodiac and Irish terms for star signs, as well as some of the many festivals of Irish life. We finished up with a discussion on traditional Irish superstitions and learning how to talk about what we do or do not like. With this is mind, you should now be able to:
- Tell us the day of the week, the month and the season
- Understand that there are two conjugations of regular verbs in Irish
- Know how a verb is conjugated in the present tense
- Tell us your star sign and describe the vocabulary of the Zodiac
- Understand the importance of festivals in Irish life
- Be able to tell someone what you do and do not like, as well as ask them what they do or do not like
As you reflect on this week, we encourage you also to consider the questions below:
- What did you enjoy this week?
- What did you find hard?
- What surprised you?
- Have you any suggestions of how we can improve your experience?
